‘If it’s Manipur as we speak, will probably be Kerala tomorrow,’ says Catholic Bishop on violence in northeastern state

KOZHIKODE: A senior Catholic Bishop in Kerala mentioned on Friday that the church was nervous over the scenario in Manipur and termed the continued violence within the northeastern state as a “meticulously planned” and “executed one”.

While addressing a Congress protest assembly organised right here on the violence within the northeastern state, Bishop Remigiose Inchananiyil of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Diocese of Thamarassery in Kozhikode district, mentioned the church was nervous that “if it is Manipur today, it will be Kerala tomorrow”.

Kozhikode MP, M Ok Raghavan staged a starvation strike to induce the Union authorities to mitigate the violence taking place in Manipur since May 3.

More than 100 folks have misplaced their lives within the ethnic violence between Meitei and Kuki communities in Manipur.

“We all know what is happening in Manipur. How meticulously things were planned to eliminate a particular section of society. A play that was scripted months ago was executed. We are afraid that if it is Manipur today, it will be Kerala tomorrow,” Bishop Inchananiyil mentioned.

The ruling CPI(M) and the Congress get together have been attacking the Union authorities over its alleged failure to manage the violence because it erupted in Manipur a number of weeks in the past.
