Herd of untamed elephants unfold worry in Kerala’s Palappilly

KOCHI: A herd of round 45 wild elephants has been tenting in a rubber plantation at Palappilly in Thrissur district for the previous one week, spreading panic among the many property employees and native residents.

Though the forest division and the employees burst crackers in a bid to drive the herd again to the forest, the elephants refused to go away the property. There are many calves within the herd together with a new child which makes the duty powerful for the forest workers.

“The herd has been roaming the realm for the previous few months and now they’ve made the Cochin – Malabar rubber plantation their resting place. The elephants enter the village throughout the evening and destroy crops which have led to protests among the many native residents.

There are two giant rubber plantations within the space which prolong as much as 1,500 hectares. The presence of elephants on the highway throughout evening hours is posing a risk to the residents and now we have suggested them to journey in teams. We help the residents of the Eachipara colony in Chimmony to return to their
homes within the evening,” stated Palappilly forest vary officer Okay P Prem Shemir.

Two rubber tapping employees – Sainuddin and Peethambaran – have been trampled by elephants in August 2021. The employees have been on the best way to the rubber plantation to begin tapping work once they have been attacked by the jumbos. 

The tapping employees right here begin their work at 3 am and the presence of elephants pose risk to their lives. The forest division has suggested the employees to not begin tapping work earlier than 6 am. The employees stated the elephants have induced intensive harm to the plantation by uprooting and pulling down timber. The elephants roam round close by villages of Kundayi and Chimmony throughout the evening and destroy crops.

During the daytime, the herd rests on the plantation. The forest division is planning to hunt the assistance of the Rapid Response Team and to carry Kumki elephants from Wayanad to drive the herd again to the forest.
