Girl useless, 2 children critically harm at school gate collapse

PHULBANI: Tragedy struck a major college in Raikia block of Kandhamal district on Friday as an eight-year-old woman was killed and two of her classmates sustained grievous accidents after an iron gate collapsed on them.The deceased was recognized as Risika Pradhan and the injured are Subhashree Pradhan and Ritesh Pradhan. All the three had been college students of Class III in Belkati major college.

Sources stated an anganwadi centre was working from the first college. On the day, whereas anganwadi staff had been distributing mosquito nets within the college, the children had been taking part in close to the iron gate on the entrance. All of a sudden, the gate and the brick pillar collapsed on them. While Risika died on the spot, Subhashree and Ritesh sustained critical accidents and had been rushed to the hospital.

Sarpanch Pravakar Pradhan together with the block’s junior engineer and cluster useful resource centre coordinator rushed to the college.
