Five killed in highway accident in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district

DHENKANAL: In a tragic highway mishap 5 individuals have been killed on NH 53 close to Patharakhumba, about 15 km from Kamakhyanagar city, within the Dhenkanal district on Sunday.

Police sources stated the mishap occurred when a dashing truck collided head-on with an autorickshaw killing 5 individuals, together with driver of the ill-fated three-wheeler on the spot.

The deceased have been Ananta Samal, Prahalad Samal, Adikanda Samal, Ankura Samal and hisson Divya Ranjan Samal (13). They all belonged to Bangura village below Kamakhyanagar police limits.

Eyewitnesses stated the accident was so extreme that the truck dragged the auto a number of metre away from the accident spot. Preliminary investigation revealed the 4 have been on their option to close by Muktapesi village for some work.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has expressed grief over the tragic highway accident and introduced ex-gratia of Rs 1 lakh for the kin of the deceased individuals. The district administration will aslo launch Rs 20,000 every from the Red Cross fund.
