Father-son duo electrocuted to dying in coconut plucking accident close to Kerala’s Vizhinjam

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A father and son had been electrocuted after the iron rod that was used for plucking coconuts got here into contact with the 11 KV electrical line at Chowara close to Vizhinjam on Friday. The deceased are Appukuttan, 65 and his son Renil, 36 of Puthuval Veedu, Somatheeram Road, Chowara.

The Vizhinjam police have registered a case as per part 174 (unnatural dying) of the Indian Penal Code. According to the police, the incident passed off round 9.30 am when Appukuttan and Renil had been on the terrace of their home to pluck coconuts from the tree. 

They used a protracted iron rod with a machete positioned on the sting. When they tried to carry the rod to tug off the coconuts, the rod touched the electrical line and each of them suffered electrical shock. They died on the spot. 

The relations got here to know concerning the incident after a giant electrical spark with a loud sound was heard. Following this, the police rushed to the spot and alerted the KSEB officers to modify off the ability for shifting the our bodies. 

The our bodies have been shifted to the morgue of the medical faculty hospital after an inquest, the police stated.
