Cyclone Gulab to make landfall at the moment, Met division points alert for Andhra, Odisha

BHUBANESWAR: An orange alert has been issued in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh forward of cyclone ‘Gulab’, which is approaching the coastal states from the Bay of Bengal and is predicted to make landfall on Sunday night in line with the India Meteorological Department.

The orange alert has been issued for reasonable or heavy thunderstorms and wind pace with 30-40 km per hour to succeed in some districts of Odisha inside the subsequent three hours.

According to IMD Bhubaneswar, some districts of Odisha together with Puri, Khorda, Nayagarh, Ganjama and Gajapati are more likely to be hit by the wind with 30-40 km per hour pace.

“Moderate rainfall or thunderstorms along with one or two heavy spells of rain have also been predicted in these areas,” the assertion added.

Waterlogging within the low mendacity areas together with poor visibility and visitors disruption within the city areas are predicted. The division has suggested avoiding motion within the affected areas.

In addition, the Met division has additionally issued a yellow alert for the Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore, Rayagada districts of Odisha.

“Light to moderate rain or thunderstorm with lightning is likely to affect some parts of districts of Odisha including Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore, Rayagada within next three hours,” IMD stated in an announcement.

Further, IMD suggested folks to maintain a watch on the climate and accordingly transfer to safer locations to guard from lightning strikes.

A senior scientist of IMD Bhubaneswar Umashankar Das stated that the deep despair over the Bay of Bengal that intensified into cyclone Gulab is more likely to transfer practically westwards and cross north Andhra Pradesh – south Odisha coasts between Kalingapatnam and Gopalpur round midnight of September 26.

As of now, it has moved practically westwards of the Bay of Bengal with a pace of 10 km per hour over the past six hours. “The Cyclonic Storm ‘Gulab’ over northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal moved nearly westwards with a speed of 10 km per hour during last six hours and lay centred at 530 am on September 26 , over northwest and adjoining the west-central Bay of Bengal near Lat. 18.3°N and Long. 87.3°E, about 270 km east-southeast of Gopalpur (Odisha) and 330 km east of Kalingapatnam (Andhra Pradesh),” he added.

Earlier, the Director of IMD Kolkata knowledgeable that the cyclonic storm Gulab is more likely to attain the West Bengal coast round September 29.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Saturday held a evaluation assembly on the preparedness in wake of the climate workplace report on cyclone alert and directed the officers to take all needed steps for the protection of the folks.
