Custodial torture: HC sees bid to save lots of workers in DIG report

KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Monday expressed its displeasure on the inquiry report submitted by the DIG (prisons) concerning the alleged manhandling of Tittu Jerome, who has been present process life imprisonment within the Kevin homicide case, contained in the central jail in Thiruvanantha-puram.

In an order issued on Monday, the bench noticed, “We are unhappy with the manner in which the inquiry report has been submitted by the DIG who has been authorised by the DGP, Prisons.” The report mentioned inmates complained of manhandling by jail officers in retaliation to the inquiry ordered in opposition to the smuggling of liquor into the jail premises. It additionally said that the report of the medical officer, Poojapura Central Jail, didn’t point out any indicators of torture or  accidents.
