BJD sweeps PS chairperson polls in Sundargarh district

ROURKELA: Continuing its successful streak,  the ruling BJD received 11 of the 17 posts of Panchayat Samiti (PS) or block chairpersons within the tribal-dominated Sundargarh district on Saturday. The BJD supported candidates swept all three blocks – Kuanrmunda, Nuagaon and Bisra – beneath Birmitrapur Assembly Constituency (AC) which has a BJP MLA Shankar Oram. The BJD additionally received the Bonai block.

However, CPM clinched the Koida, Lahunipada and Gurundia blocks beneath Bonai AC which has at all times been its stronghold. In reality, the CPM-backed chairperson for Koida block was elected unopposed. In the Congress bastion of Rajgangpur AC too the BJD received the Lathikata, Rajgangpur and Kutra blocks.

In the BJP citadel of Sundargarh AC the BJD emerged victorious in Hemgir and Lefripada blocks, whereas the BJP managed to win the Sundargarh Sadar and Tangarpali blocks. Moreover, within the BJP stronghold Talsara AC the BJD received the Subdega and Balishankara blocks, whereas BJP received  solely in Bargaon block.

Bhawanipatna: The BJD continued with its successful spree by clinching 10 posts within the panchayat samiti chairperson elections throughout 13 blocks of Kalahandi district on Saturday.  As per studies,  BJP candidates received in two blocks – Bhawanipatna and Jaipatna and one unbiased candidate in Kalampur block. Rest 10 samiti chairperson posts went in favour of BJD. In Lanjigarh, Kamala Patra of BJD received towards celebration’s insurgent candidate Srimati Majhi, spouse of former minister Balabhadra Majhi. Sources say, Kamla’s victory is being considered as vital as Majhi’s household was exercising its stronghold within the block for the final 20 years. She received towards Srimati by a margin of six votes.
