Bird flu: Duck farmers to get monetary help

ALAPPUZHA: The state authorities will present a financial aid subsequent week to duck farmers who’ve suffered losses as a result of unfold of avian influenza in Kuttanad. According to Animal Husbandry Department officers, the division has estimated the entire loss at Rs 1.06 crore within the district this month. As many as 28 farmers have suffered losses in Karuvatta, Pallippad, Thakazhi and Chambakulam panchayats. 

As per the report ready by the division, 50,000 geese have been culled to forestall the illness unfold. Another 21,500 geese have died as a result of illness. The authorities has declared a compensation of Rs 100 for every duck which was lower than 30 days previous and Rs 200 for every duck which was older than that, officers stated.

The chicken flu was reported in 4 centres in Kuttanad and Karthikappally taluks within the first week of January. The district administration had declared the taluks as chicken flu-affected. The complete birds inside a radius of 1km from every of the affected poultry farm have been destroyed, together with different home birds like rooster. Samples of lifeless geese and different birds collected from the taluks have been despatched to High Security Animal Disease Laboratory, Bhopal, to find out the reason for loss of life.
