Avian friends begin arriving at Odisha’s Chilika Lake

BERHAMPUR: Winter is but to set in however migratory birds have began arriving at Chilika Lake, the most important brackish water lagoon of Asia.The birds began arriving on the lake within the first week of October and with a view to defend the birds, Forest division has mounted elaborate preparations, Assistant conservator of Forest of Chilika Wildlife Division Sarat Chandra Mishra stated. 

The birds arrive on the lake on an annual sojourn to flee the cruel winter of nations resembling Russia, Kazakhstan and so far as the US and Canada. Spread over 1,100 sq km, the lake offers a great spot to the birds to feed and breed. 

As many as 21 camps and a cellular squad have been arrange by the Chilika Wildlife Division. While Tangi vary has the utmost 11 camps, Balugaon has 4 at Nalaban, Satapada and Rambha have two every and Chilika one. While the forest personnel will patrol the water routes within the lake on motorised boats, the cellular squad will conduct patrolling on land between Balugaon and Tangi. 

This aside, 60 locals have been employed to work on the short-term camps which can perform until March subsequent yr. As per a tough estimate, round 22,000 migratory birds of 55 species together with over 10,000 Indian birds have already arrived on the lake.
