4.75 lakh quintal licensed seeds given to farmers: Odisha authorities at Assembly

BHUBANESWAR: The State authorities on Wednesday knowledgeable the Assembly that the seed substitute charge of paddy within the State in 2021-22 was 32.92 per cent and the federal government has offered over 4.75 lakh quintal of licensed seeds to the farmers.
Responding to a query from BJD’s Amar Prasad Satpathy, Agriculture and Farmers Empowerment Minister Ranendra Prasad Swain stated the paddy seeds requirement of the State is round 13,27,760 quintal for 2022-23 kharif season and 4,75,244 quintal of seeds has been offered to the farmers to date.
The Minister stated that round 5,200 farmers of the State have registered with the Odisha State Seeds Corporation (OSSC) for manufacturing and provide of licensed paddy seeds. The authorities has given contracts to some personal companies for supplying high quality paddy seeds.
Responding to Opposition allegation that seeds equipped by the personal companies will not be germinating, the Minister stated The division is but to get any report of non-germination of seeds equipped to farmers.
