Wrestling: I stand by the wrestlers and can elevate this problem with the federal government, says Babita Phogat

By India Today Web Desk: Olympian and BJP chief Babita Phogat has stated that she stands by the wrestlers and the allegations made by them in opposition to the Wrestling Federation of India. India’s high wrestlers on Wednesday staged an unprecedented protest in opposition to the federation’s president.

Speaking to India Today, Babita stated she stands by the wrestlers and the allegations made by them in opposition to WFI, including that she is going to take up this problem with the federal government.

“I stand by the wrestlers and what they have said about the federation. I will try and raise this issue with the government as well so that what the wrestlers are demanding, they can get,” stated Babita.

She went on to say that these are usually not small allegations, in any other case wrestlers of such stature wouldn’t deliver it up on such a giant scale.

“These are not small allegations. There has to be truth to this otherwise players of such stature would not bring it up on such a big scale. There has to be a thorough investigation in this and I urge the government to look into this. As far as I know, the government has also taken some action,” Babita added.

India’s high wrestlers on Wednesday staged an unprecedented protest in opposition to the federation’s president. Wrestlers like Olympic bronze medalist Bajrang Punia, world championship medalist Vinesh Phogat, Rio Olympics medalist Sakshi Malik, world championship medallist Sarita Mor, Sangeeta Phogat, Satyawart Malik, Jitender Kinha, and CWG medallist Sumit Malik had been additionally current at Jantar Mantar.

The authorities has fashioned a three-member panel to probe sexual harassment allegations in opposition to WFI chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan. The 28-year-old Vinesh Phogat alleged that Brij Bhushan Sharan had been harassing feminine wrestlers.

Earlier immediately, President of WFI and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh referred to as sports activities minister Anurag Thakur and clarified the allegations made by wrestlers in opposition to him and the officers of the federation.
