By India Today Web Desk: New Zealand captain Sophie Devine had no qualms in admitting that the Women’s Premier League public sale is the “elephant in the room” on the Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 in South Africa.

The Women’s Premier League public sale is more likely to be held on February 13 in Mumbai, three days into the Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 in South Africa.

“It’s the elephant in the room,” Devine mentioned in the course of the captains’ press convention. “It’s a really unique experience. It’s enormous. You talk about glass ceilings and I think the WPL is going to be the next stage. I am really excited about it.

“As feminine cricketers, that is one thing we’ve by no means been by earlier than. On each scale, it is going to be awkward. That’s the phrase we’ve spoken about.”

Devine further said that having a value attached to a name is not the nicest thing but it is something that women cricketers have put in their names for.

“Some individuals are going to get picked up; some folks will not,” Devine said. “And you will get a price hooked up to what you might be price which, as human beings, shouldn’t be the nicest [thing], to be completely sincere. But it is also a job and it is what we have put our names in for.”

The New Zealand captain also said that the Women’s Premier League will be an “monumental step in ladies’s cricket”, but admitted that one would be “naive to assume that it is not going to be a distraction”.

Meanwhile, Australia captain Meg Lanning said: “Personally, I’m actually enthusiastic about it and I do know the women are as properly. We are specializing in what we try to do right here, which is crucial factor. There’s no proper or fallacious strategy to go about it. Everyone will take care of it as they want.

“We’ve spoken as a team about letting people deal with it how they feel is best because, as Sophie said, it’s a little bit awkward and it’s just trying to embrace that and understand that it’s actually a really exciting time and you don’t have a lot of control over it. We’ve just got to wait and see.”
