Renowned as a Test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara has picked up cues from the likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli and now needs to make most of his data to succeed for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) within the upcoming version of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Pujara, who went unsold for plenty of years, was picked up by CSK at a base worth of Rs 50 lakh over the last public sale.
The Saurashtra-batsman is now prepared with a unique mindset in direction of the shortest format of the sport.
Citing the instance of his nationwide staff skipper Kohli, Pujara stated, “…When it comes to strike rate, yes, I agree that I’m not a power-hitter. But at the same time, you learn from players like Virat (Kohli).”
“Rohit (Sharma), he is not purely a power-hitter, but he is one of the best timers of the ball I have seen in the shorter formats,” Pujara advised ESPN Cricinfo.
Even the likes of New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson might be an ideal instance to emulate since he performs all cricketing pictures.

“You learn from players like Kane Williamson. Even Steven Smith. All of them score runs by just playing cricketing shots, and at the same time they will be innovative,” Pujara stated.
“I also have that mindset, that if I want to be successful, I also need to be innovative, but at the same time you can still score runs by playing cricket shots. You need to get better at generating power, I won’t deny that, but ultimately cricketing sense is what I feel will be your main strength.”
The 33-year-old admitted that in the course of the early phases of his profession, he used to really feel that tweaking his sport to swimsuit the wants of T20 will hamper his Test cricket however not anymore.
“… all of it comes with expertise. When I used to be taking part in the T20 format previously, I had a little bit little bit of a fear that what if my Test cricket will get spoiled? Then there can be some technical error as soon as the IPL will get over.
“But now I am over that. What I realised over a period of time is my natural game, my strengths, will never go away,” Pujara stated.
And what helped him have been phrases of knowledge from Rahul Dravid, once they had interacted many moons again.
“This recommendation I received from Rahul bhai (Dravid) way back, however I’d nonetheless like to say it. He advised me that your pure sport is not going to change though you strive taking part in totally different pictures.
“I began taking part in cricket at an early age. I made my first-class debut in 2005-06. So it’s virtually 15 years now the place I’ve performed this sport.
“So if I am playing the T20 format now, when I prepare for a Test series I won’t forget Test cricket. Adapting to T20 format and moving into Test cricket again won’t be an issue, for sure.”
If somebody has been a profitable pink ball participant, tackling a white ball format isn’t that troublesome, is what Pujara feels.
“I definitely think so, especially the way the white ball travels. It is just about making the mental change. I feel that mentally if you are ready to make some adjustments, you don’t need to take a lot of pressure,” he stated.
“In Test cricket there is a lot of pressure, there is a price on your wicket. But in the shorter format you just need to express yourself and play all the shots you can.”
