MS Dhoni on return to Chepauk after 4 years: Does imply quite a bit

By India Today Sports Desk: MS Dhoni on Monday (April 3) returned to Chepauk to play Chennai Super Kings’ first dwelling match after 4 years within the IPL 2023.

The four-time IPL champions CSK haven’t performed in Chepauk in 1426 days, having final performed towards Mumbai Indians on May 7, 2019. Dhoni expressed his pleasure on returning to CSK’s dwelling, saying it meant quite a bit.

“(It) does mean a lot to be back here. IPL started in 2008 but we’ve not played a lot of cricket here,” Dhoni stated on the toss for the match towards Lucknow Super Giants.

“Only about 5-6 seasons we’ve been here. This is the first time the full stadium will be operational. A few stands were empty earlier. Really glad that we get to play all our home games here at Chepauk. It means a lot.”

While CSK are approaching the again of a defeat towards Gujarat Titans, LSG began off their IPL 2023 marketing campaign with a thumping win over Delhi Capitals.

Meanwhile, former India cricketer and coach Anil Kumble identified that Dhoni is “still going strong” regardless of retiring from worldwide cricket.

“Four years is a long time, in four years things change. MS has retired from international cricket, but still going strong. So, the entire crowd is waiting to see CSK at their home ground and also MSD. So, that’s something and we saw that in the practice and now fans have access to the entire stadium,” Kumble stated on JioCinema.

“Even with half the stadium (during Covid-19), we could still hear the roar and it will be wonderful with the fans back at the stadium. Chennai always had good cricketing knowledge and fans will come here and they enjoy good cricket. Here, it will be all yellow.”
