By India Today Sports Desk: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain KL Rahul heaped reward on pacer Mark Wood, saying it was his day after taking a five-wicket haul towards Delhi Capitals (DC) within the IPL 2023 on April 1.

Wood returned with the figures of 5/14 in his four-over quota as LSG beat DC by 50 runs in Lucknow. The Englishman dented DC’ 194-run chase, eradicating Prithvi Shaw, Mitchell Marsh and Sarfaraz Khan in fast succession earlier than including two extra wickets – Axar Patel and Chetan Sakariya – within the closing over.

“There was a bit of dew and we thought the wicket would get easier to bat but our bowlers did really well. The whole group, it was Woody’s day. It’s always a dream for a fast bowler,” Rahul mentioned after the match.

“When someone is going well and has those kinds of performances, it has a huge impact on the team and on the result of the game. It was Woody’s day, he made it count but overall the group put pressure on the batters. It was an important win but we’re not gonna make too much of it.”

Rahul additionally lauded Kyle Mayers, who made his IPL debut with a formidable knock of 73 off simply 38 balls. Mayers set the tone of LSG’s innings, smashing seven sixes and two boundaries. On the again of his sensible innings, Mayers took fourth spot within the highest runs on IPL debut chart.
