Kane Williamson to be launched early for IPL, Tom Latham to guide New Zealand in ODIs towards Sri Lanka

New Zealand’s white-ball captain Kane Williamson might be launched early for the IPL 2023. In his absence, Tom Latham will lead the BlackCaps within the ODIs towards Sri Lanka.

By India Today Sports Desk: Kane Williamson might be launched by the New Zealand Cricket (NZC) early for the IPL 2023, the board introduced on Monday.

Williamson, who helped New Zealand beat Sri Lanka by two wickets in an exciting first Test, will be part of the defending champions Gujarat Titans this season after being purchased for INR 2 crore in the course of the mini public sale final yr.

Along with Williamson, NZC will launch Tim Southee (Kolkata Knight Riders), Devon Conway (Chennai Super Kings) and Mitchell Santner (Chennai Super Kings) following the second Test. In the absence of Williamson, Tom Latham will lead New Zealand in the ODI collection towards Sri Lanka.

New Zealand have added new faces – Chad Bowes and Ben Lister – of their three-match ODI squad towards Sri Lanka. Moreover, after the primary ODI on March 25, Finn Allen (Royal Challengers Bangalore), Lockie Ferguson (Kolkata Knight Riders) and Glenn Phillips (Sunrisers Hyderabad) will journey to India for IPL.

“It’s always exciting as a coach to have new players in the environment and to have players putting their hands up to be selected again in a particular format,” said New Zealand head coach Gary Stead.

“Chad has been impressive for a number of seasons at the top of the order for Canterbury as well as being an excellent fielder. We are set to play 16 white ball matches between now and the start of May so there will be a number of chances for players to test themselves in familiar and unfamiliar conditions.”

Tom Latham (c), Finn Allen (1st ODI solely), Tom Blundell, Chad Bowes, Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman (2nd and third ODI), Lockie Ferguson (1st ODI solely), Matt Henry, Ben Lister (2nd and third ODI), Daryl Mitchell, Henry Nicholls (2nd and third ODI), Glenn Phillips (1st ODI solely), Henry Shipley, Ish Sodhi, Blair Tickner, Will Young.
