Former India batter Wasim Jaffer has heaped reward on batter Cheteshwar Pujara, saying he soaked up all of the strain on Day 1. Pujara scored 90 runs as India completed the day with 278/6 on the board towards Bangladesh at Chattogram.

By India Today Web Desk: Former India batter Wasim Jaffer has heaped reward on batter Cheteshwar Pujara, saying he soaked up all of the strain on Day 1. Pujara scored 90 runs as India completed the day with 278/6 on the board towards Bangladesh at Chattogram.

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Jaffer mentioned Pujara was his customary self and soaked up all of the strain after India’s gradual begin on Day 1.

“He is somebody you know what kind of job he is going to do and it was the standard Cheteshwar Pujara. Wickets were falling from the other end and he (Pujara) was soaking all the pressure up,” mentioned Jaffer.

He mentioned that Pujara took his time within the center and can be feeling unfortunate to overlook out on an excellent century.

“Taking his time and anything loose, he was scoring runs on it. He was unfortunate and will be feeling unlucky to miss out on a very good hundred,” Jaffer added.

The former India batter mentioned he was pleased that Pujara did nicely since he has not performed common cricket lately.

“On top of that, Test cricket has not been played regularly and he’s (Pujara) been in and out. He’s played County Cricket and little bit for Saurashtra. But coming in straightaway and getting into his groove is what Cheteshwar Pujara is all about and I’m happy for him,” mentioned Jaffer.

Jaffer added that Pujara did the onerous yards and performed the spinners very nicely on Day 1.

“He did all the hard yards, took his time early on, played the spinners really well and when he got the opportunity to score, he never missed out,” Jaffer added.

Pujara scored an important knock of 90 runs of 203 balls and needed to preserve a gradual head after openers Shubman Gill and KL Rahul alongside Virat Kohli had been dismissed early towards Bangladesh on Day 1.
