Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies mentioned that the signing of Sadio Mane will assist to fill the void left by Robert Lewandowski.

Mane left Liverpool to affix the German membership final month. The attacker agreed to a contract till June 30, 2025, whereas striker Lewandowski bid adieu to Bayern after spending eight years and joined Barcelona on July 19.

“(Mane) is a good player, he’s a big piece to (add to) the team,” Davies advised ESPN. “So we’re excited to have him and we’re looking forward to what he can bring to this team. An important piece left, but also an important piece arrived.

Bayern Munich, who won the Bundesliga for the 10th consecutive time, will begin their campaign on August 5 with a trip to Eintracht Frankfurt.

Defender Davies also revealed that he feared that he might not play again after doctors were unable to give him a timeline for his return when he was away from the sport due to a heart problem last season.

Davies was diagnosed with a minor heart condition in January after a Covid-19 infection in December. Subsequently, he couldn’t play for Bayern Munich until April. Davies also missed out on Canada’s CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers.

“That was very scary, particularly (as a result of) the docs are saying that they do not know how lengthy I used to be imagined to be out,” Davies said. “I believe that was the scariest half.

“At that time I had doubts in my head, whether I’m still going to be able to play football, but everything worked out at the end. I’m happy and I’m grateful to the doctor for taking such good care of me. I’m happy that I can be back on the pitch.”
