By India Today Sports Desk: Australia all-rounder Ellyse Perry thanked the South African crowd for turning up on the Women’s T20 World Cup remaining.

The defending champions Australia beat the hosts South Africa by 19 runs to win their record-extending sixth title and a hat-trick of trophies for a second time (2010, 2012, 2014, 2018, 2020, 2023).

“Huge thank you to the crowd for creating such an incredible atmosphere,” Perry, who has featured in all editions of Women’s T20 World Cup since its inception, mentioned after the match.

“I know it didn’t quite go the way they were hoping, but just to have the opportunity to stand and be a part of this; right from the start, the national anthem, I knew it would be a great day.”

Jess Jonassen echoed Perry’s phrases, including the environment was unimaginable at Newlands, Cape Town on Sunday. She additionally heaped reward on South Africa for taking the match deep.

“You can’t go into a World Cup or a final not thinking you are going to lift the trophy,” Jonassen mentioned. “To South Africa’s credit, they took it right to the end, and the crowd was amazing. Even though they weren’t going for us, it was an incredible atmosphere. So it was special to play in front of.

“I’m relishing the opportunity to be back out here to represent my country. I have my parents and partner in the crowd, which is extra special.”
