Drama ensues in Big Bash League as Adam Zampa’s run out at non-striker’s finish is deemed not out

Melbourne Stars skipper Adam Zampa was on the centre of drama towards Renegades within the Big Bash League Melbourne derby as his run out of batter Tom Rogers on the non-striker’s finish was deemed not out by the third umpire.

The incident occurred in the course of the closing over of the Renegades innings as Rogers was dismissed by Zampa whereas he tried to depart the crease early earlier than the latter bowled the supply.

In the video shared by Cricket Australia, Zampa whereas bowling was seen to take off the bails after he accomplished his follow-through on the bowling finish.

However, the third umpire deemed the act as not out. “Rogers survives the Mankad attempt but only because Zampa’s bowling arm was past vertical”, tweeted Cricket Australia.

Per part 38.3 within the MCC ebook of regulation, “If the non-striker is out of his/her ground at any time from the moment the ball comes into play until the instant when the bowler would normally have been expected to release the ball, the non-striker is liable to be Run out. In these circumstances, the non-striker will be out Run out if he/she is out of his/her ground when his/her wicket is put down by the bowler throwing the ball at the stumps or by the bowler’s hand holding the ball, whether or not the ball is subsequently delivered.”

The non-striker will be run out if he/she is out of his/her floor up till the second the bowler would usually have been anticipated to launch the ball.

MCC took to Twitter to clarify the incident, “The non-striker can be run out if he/she is out of his/her ground up until the moment the bowler would normally have been expected to release the ball. That means when the arm gets to its highest point.”

Further including, “The bowler is *not* entitled to go all the way around in the bowling action and then run the non-striker out.”

During the innings break talking, former Australia pacer Brett Lee defined on Fox Sports, “If he goes past where he’s meant to let go of the ball there…..it’s deemed you can’t actually Mankad the batsman.”

“Listen, I don’t like that rule, I don’t like the Mankad rule whatsoever, I reckon they should take it out of their hands,” he added.

He additional prompt, “The best way to do it is to say to the batsman, if you leave your crease, you get docked five runs. Take it away from the bowler….I just don’t like seeing that in the game of cricket.”

Adam Zampa had a very good outing with the ball as he registered bowling figures of 1/18 in his quota of 4 overs, with Renegades ending their innings at 141/7. Trent Boult was the choose of the bowlers for Stars, selecting two wickets and conceding simply 23 runs.
