Chelsea vs Liverpool postponed as Premier League returns on 16 September after pause to the season

Premier League matches have been postponed after Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s unhappy demise on 8 September. The Premier League introduced that the season will resume on 16 September.

“Following extensive consultation with clubs, police, local Safety Advisory Groups and other relevant authorities, there was no other option but to postpone the three fixtures.

“For the matches being performed in the course of the interval of National Mourning, tributes will likely be paid to The Queen at Premier League stadiums.”

Manchester United said their match was postponed because the Greater Manchester Police are “supporting forces throughout the United Kingdom at places and occasions of excessive significance” after the queen’s dying.

New dates for the rearranged fixtures will likely be introduced sooner or later, the league added.
