Australian Open 2021: Simona Halep escapes in tight three-set win over Ajla Tomljanovic to achieve third spherical

Simona Halep narrowly averted an early exit on the Australian Open on Wednesday evening, getting back from 5-2 down within the third set to beat No. 72 Ajla Tomljanovic of Australia 4-6, 6-4, 7-5.
The second-seeded Halep hadn’t misplaced to a participant ranked as little as Tomljanovic since her second-round defeat to No. 116 Taylor Townsend on the 2019 U.S. Open.
