Australia to type ‘wider leadership group’ by rotating Pat Cummins’s stand-ins for ODIs

By India Today Web Desk: Josh Hazlewood stood-in for Australia’s second ODI in opposition to England on Saturday, November 19 on the Sydney Cricket Ground. Prior to the sport, Hazlewood talked about forming a ‘wider leadership group’ forward of the 50-over World Cup to be performed subsequent 12 months in India.

Pat Cummins, who made his ODI captaincy debut a few days in the past on the Adelaide Oval, determined to take a relaxation for the ODI in Sydney.

“I’m standing in [for] this game, and hopefully it is a nice and seamless transition. Pat was happy to have a rest with the amount of cricket coming up. Just a nice little ‘you’ll captain next game’. It’s a wider leadership group, so just standing in for this game,” Hazlewood was quoted as saying.

Earlier, selection chair George Bailey also said that Cummins may not play every other game before the multi-nation tournament in India.

“I do not anticipate Pat to play each one-day sport within the lead as much as the World Cup. We’ve acquired plenty of gamers throughout the group who can assume the management ought to they should. So I anticipate we would see two or three guys taking the management at some stage,” Bailey had stated.

“We are moving away from this concept of a captain taking over and their leadership being all encompassing. It’s very much collaboration at times,” he added.

Previously, Cummins took over as Australia’s full-time skipper in ODIs after Aaron Finch retired from the format.

Back in 2021, Cummins took cost as Australia’s Test skipper after Tim Paine acquired himself tangled in an argument. He began his captaincy stint with Australia’s 4-0 win over England within the earlier version of the Ashes.
