“He mentioned Marnus (Labuschagne), the humorous one. Then David Warner had a haircut, Usman (Khawaja) had a haircut and he says, ‘Oh there’s one other one …’

“He says, ‘One of them, I think Alex is his name’. I mentioned, ‘Alex Carey, wicketkeeper?’

“He says, ‘He hasn’t paid’. It was a kind of cash-only barbers, and he promised him he would do a switch in a while within the day.

“True story. He might have paid by now.”

Adam Mahmood, who works at Doc Barnet’s Barber Shop in Leeds, informed The Sun: “We don’t settle for playing cards, and Alex mentioned he had no money on him.

‘There’s a Tesco money machine actually not far away he might have run to.

“He might have nipped again to their resort and been not more than 5 minutes, however as a substitute he mentioned he would switch it.

“Maybe he forgot. I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt, but if it’s not paid by Monday, I won’t be happy.”

However, Cricket Australia and Steve Smith has quashed this hearsay has made it clear that the Carey hasn’t obtained a haircut or visited a barber since final month’s World Test Championship closing in London.

“I can confirm Alex Carey has not had a haircut since we were in London. Get your facts right The Sun,” Australian vice-captain Steve Smith posted to Threads.

Cook on Saturday has apologised for the misunderstanding. “There’s also been a bit of fuss around on a rainy day, a bit of news about a haircut which might have been discussed on radio the other day,” he informed BBC TMS.

“A case of mistaken identity, so I apologise for the mistaken identity to Alex Carey.”
