WB: TMC MLA Manik Bhattacharya arrested by ED in SSC Scam case

The Enforcement Directorate arrested Manik Bhattacharya, a Trinamool Congress MLA, in reference to the SSC recruitment rip-off case, delivering one other setback to the occasion. On the intervening nights of Monday and Tuesday, he was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate for failing to cooperate with the company’s investigation.

On the directions of the Calcutta High Court, Manik Bhattacharya, an MLA from Palashipara, was faraway from his place as head of the West Bengal Board of Primary Education in June owing to alleged irregularities within the appointment of academics for state-run major colleges. On July 22, the ED searched his residence, and he was interrogated 5 days later.

The Supreme Court had granted him immunity from arrest within the CBI case until October 10. He was arrested simply hours after his Supreme Court-granted authorized immunity expired. After former minister Partha Chatterjee was detained, the ED summoned him for the primary time. The ED seized important papers related to the suspected recruitment fraud throughout raids at Bhattacharya’s residence.

Partha Chatterjee, one other TMC MLA and former Minister, is already in judicial detention on this matter. On September 28, a particular PMLA court docket denied his bail software, citing the ‘gravity and seriousness’ of the offence, and remanded him to jail till October 31.

While the ED is wanting into cash laundering, the Central Bureau of Investigation is wanting into any abnormalities within the hiring of non-teaching staff (Group C & D), assistant academics (Class IX-XII), and elementary faculty academics. Senior TMC chief Partha Chatterjee served as Education Minister throughout the alleged fraud’s execution.

On April 26 and May 18, he was questioned by the CBI. The ED arrested him on July 23 after conducting a 26-hour raid at his residence in Kolkata. Furthermore, it has confiscated greater than Rs 100 crores in money and properties from the residence of his aide Arpita Mukherjee thus far.
