This year the festival of Navratri will start from 17 October, which will last till 25 October due to more mass. According to the Hindu calendar, such a coincidence is being formed after 19 years. This was also done earlier in the year 2001. According to the Panchang, Mahalaya is celebrated on Amavasya Tithi of Ashwin month i.e. all Pitru Amavasya. After the end of Mahalaya Amavasya, the Sharadiya Navratra begins, but this time it is not so.

According to the Panchang, the festival of Navratri will begin on the Pratipada date of the Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month, which is falling on October 17. On this day, the Sun will sit in the Moon sign in the Virgo sign. The auspicious time of Ghatasthapana on the first day of Navratri is from 6.23 am in the morning to 10: 12 in the morning.

During this time things like alcohol, meat, onion, garlic etc. are avoided. Fasting is observed on the tenth day after nine days. The tenth day of Navratri is known as Vijayadashami or Dussehra. It is said that on this day, Lord Shri Ram killed Ravana and conquered Lanka.

Fed up with this, all the gods together with Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh gave birth to Durga as mother power. It is said that there was a fierce battle between Mother Durga and Mahishasura for nine days and on the tenth day, Mother Durga killed Mahishasura. This day is celebrated as the victory of evil over good.
