The country’s highest rainfall since August in 1976, 44-year record broken

The 44-year record of highest rainfall in the month of August has been broken in the country. Earlier the highest rainfall was recorded in 1976 during the month of August. According to the IMD report, “From August 1 to 28, the country has received 296.2 mm of rainfall, while the average rainfall in August is 237.2 mm. This means that the country has received 25% more rainfall than the average this month.

Earlier in 1976, in August, there was 28.4% more rainfall than the average. During 1901 to 2020, the highest rainfall in August was in 1926, when it received 33% more rainfall than the average. During July there was 10% less rainfall than the average. IMD said that from June 1 to August 28, the country received 749.6 mm of rainfall, while the average rainfall during this period is 689.4 mm. That is 9% more rain than average.

Prediction proved to be correct

According to the forecast by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the monsoon may slow down in September. IMD Director General Dr Mrityunjay Mohapatra said on Friday, “The forecast so far regarding monsoon has proved to be correct and the distribution of monsoon is better and uniform across the country.
