If approved, Lord Jagannath will not forgive us’, CJI said in courtroom on Rath Yatra

The Supreme Court on Thursday has decided to ban the annual Rath Yatra to be held in Jagannath, Puri. The visit was to take place on 23 June this year. However, about 5 days ago, the court has said to stop it, citing the coronavirus epidemic. A petition was filed by the Odisha Development Council, an NGO, to stop the Jagannath Yatra in the court. The petition said that the crowds in the rath yatra may pose a threat to public health in public.
On the basis of these arguments, the bench of Chief Justice SA Bobde said that Lord Jagannath would not forgive us if we approved the visit. The Supreme Court said that such a crowd cannot be allowed to gather at the time of an epidemic. The CJI further said that we came to know today that the word jagernaut (pulsating power) in English came from Jagannath. And no one can stop the catastrophic powers
