The National High Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL), executing the ambitious Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project costing more than one lakh crore rupees, said that during its construction itself, more than 90 thousand jobs, both direct and indirect, will be created. .
Corporation spokesperson Sushma Gaur said in a statement released on Thursday that more than 51000 technicians and skilled and unskilled workers would be required for the construction work. The corporation is exploring possibilities of training such people for various related works. The corporation will also arrange for special training of the personnel of the contractors for laying the tracks.
He informed that more than 34000 indirect employment opportunities will also be created during construction. The track, which is more than 480 km long, will have a total of 26 km of tunnels, 27 iron bridges, 12 stations and many other supporting superstructures, including a 460 km long viaduct (a bridge structure above the ground) and 7 km under the sea. It is estimated to use 7.5 million tonnes of cement and 21 lakh tonnes of steel during its construction. This will also create additional employment opportunities in the related industries and their associated supply chain.
The spokesperson of this corporation, formed in 2016, said that the tenders for some important works related to construction will open in the next two months and they will be finalized. So far, 64 percent of the total land requirement for this project has been acquired, of which 82 percent is in Gujarat and Union Territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and about 23 percent in Maharashtra.
It is known that the work of this Japanese-assisted project was formally inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Ahmedabad in September 2017 in the presence of his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe.
