Woman sexually harassed on Mumbai native practice; second such incident in a month

MUMBAI: Lack of safety within the Mumbai native trains continues to pose a problem for ladies. The second sexual harassment case on a shifting practice in a month raises girls’s security issues on native trains. 

A 24-year-old lady was allegedly sexually harassed by an unidentified man on a neighborhood practice right here, police stated.

The incident befell between Charni Road and Grant Road stations of the Western Railway on the night time of June 23, stated a police official on Thursday.

The lady approached the Railway Police with a grievance on Wednesday, 5 days later, he stated.

A First Information Report was registered underneath Indian Penal Code sections 354-A (sexual harassment) on the Mumbai Central Railway police station.

The lady boarded the Churchgate-bound practice on the Charni Road station. As it approached the Grant Road station, the person made lewd gestures at her and used obscene language earlier than getting down, as per her grievance. Police have recognized a suspect, the official stated, including that probe was on.

Earlier this month, a 20-year-old lady was allegedly sexually assaulted by a person within the girls compartment of a shifting Mumbai native practice when she was travelling alone.

The incident occurred on June 14 morning when the girl, a resident of Girgaon in Mumbai, was headed in the direction of Belapur in Navi Mumbai the place she was supposed to look for an examination. Police later arrested a 40-year-old man for the offence.
