Woman in Alipurduar paraded bare, overwhelmed up; three arrested

A 35-year-old tribal lady was paraded bare and overwhelmed up by villagers for “leaving her husband for another man” in Alipurduar district. Three individuals have been arrested whereas eight others named within the FIR are absconding.
The incident befell on Thursday when the lady returned to her husband’s home after six months. Police learnt about it on Sunday when a video of the incident was extensively circulated on social media. Upon her return to the village, she was cornered by villagers, supply stated. In a Kangaroo courtroom, villager elders determined stripping as a type of “punishment” for her alleged extramarital affair with a person from a neighbouring village.
“Mariya na kitna mariyega (beat me as much as you can),” the lady is heard saying within the video.
After the incident, she left for her mother and father’ home in Assam. Police introduced her again Sunday evening and a grievance was registered. The three arrested individuals had been produced within the Alipurduar courtroom on Monday and remanded to police custody.
Last 12 months, a 32-year-old tribal widow and her companion had been allegedly stored in confinement for a day.
She was allegedly gang-raped in a Birbhum village.
