1 min read

A DAY after India started its vaccination train, the Congress Sunday raised questions on the vaccine pricing and demanded that the federal government disclose whether or not it plans to offer free vaccines to all Indians, particularly the underprivileged, and when. The occasion, nevertheless, stated it would consider the federal government’s phrase on the vaccine’s security.
Addressing a press convention, Congress communication division head Randeep Surjewala stated the federal government is refusing to reply whether or not all Indians or a minimum of the underprivileged and poor will get free vaccines. “Will the SC, ST, BC, OBC, BPL, APL, poor & underprivileged get the corona vaccine free or not? If yes, what is the roll-out plan?” he requested.
Surjewala raised questions over the pricing of the 2 vaccines – Covaxin developed by Bharat Biotech and Oxford Covishield vaccine, manufactured by Serum Institute of India. He stated Serum Institute is supplying its vaccine at Rs 200 per dose to the federal government. AstraZeneca, he stated, has dedicated to supplying it at no revenue. He stated, “Belgium has said that the cost of AstraZeneca vaccine for them is around Rs 158… Why should our government pay more…?” As for Covaxin, he requested why the federal government ought to pay Rs 95 extra to Bharat Biotech for a vaccine that has been developed with the experience of ICMR scientists.
