West Bengal: Situation ‘beneath management’ in violence-hit Hooghly, prohibitory orders nonetheless in pressure

RISHRA/SHIBPUR: The state of affairs in violence-hit Rishra and Serampore in Hooghly district is peaceable and beneath management, whilst prohibitory orders and suspension of web providers in some areas continued on Monday, police stated.

A senior officer of the Chandannagore Police Commissionerate stated round 12 folks have been arrested in reference to the clashes that broke out between two teams throughout a Ram Navami procession on Sunday night. “Things are under control and peaceful. Prohibitory orders are in force along with heavy police deployment. Markets were allowed to open for some time. We are also keeping a tab on the movement of vehicles,” he instructed PTI.

Security forces performed route marches at locations within the district, which witnessed violence on Sunday, the officer stated.

“There was tension in some areas in the morning. We, however, dispersed the crowd, and boosted security,” he stated.

“Hopefully, the situation will further improve in the afternoon. A decision on revoking prohibitory orders and resumption of internet services will be taken after evaluation,” the officer added.

Two Ram Navami processions have been organised within the Rishra police station space, and the second got here beneath assault close to Wellington Jute Mill More on GT Road round 6.15 pm on Sunday, police had stated.

Prohibitory orders beneath CrPC Section 144 have been imposed in Rishra wards 1-5 and Serampore’s ward 24, and web providers have been suspended in some elements of the district until 10 pm on Monday, they stated.
