Uttarakhand glacier burst: Efforts underway to rescue over 30 employees trapped in Tapovan tunnel

Nearly 48 hours after a flash flood struck Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district, rescue operations are underway to find round 170 folks. The mission individuals are principally labourers from Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar who had been working at two energy initiatives.

“Our teams are working to rescue about 30 workers who are trapped in the tunnel. Specialised equipment for such operations has been deployed. We are hopeful we will able to rescue everyone,” ITBP spokesperson Vivek Kumar Pandey stated.

Pandey stated that there’s a big quantity of particles contained in the tunnel. About 100 metres contained in the tunnel is cleared and accessible, and it seems to be like about 100 metres of particles extra should be cleared. Nearly 300 ITBP personnel are at present deployed on the website.
Meanwhile, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on Tuesday morning performed an aerial survey of areas affected attributable to glacier catastrophe in Chamoli.
