Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday announced a Diwali bonus for 14.82 lakh state government employees. There was a lot of skepticism about the announcement of bonuses this year due to the state’s deteriorating economy due to Corona virus epidemic but the Adityanath government decided to give bonuses to employees.
This decision of the government will put an additional burden of Rs 1023 crore on the state exchequer. The Diwali bonus will cover all non-gazetted state employees, including government aided educational institutions, local bodies and district panchayats as well as daily wage earners.

Like last year, 75 percent of the bonus amount will be deposited in the provident fund account of the employees and 25 percent will be given to the employees in cash. Employees who do not have PF accounts will be provided with National Savings Certificates equal to this amount.

Employees who have retired on March 31, 2020 or are due to retire on April 30 next year will be given cash in full for the Diwali bonus. Bonus for daily salaried people will be calculated on the basis of maximum monthly salary of Rs 1200.
