The US Food and Drug Administration on Saturday granted the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine for emergency use in the country.

“I am authorizing the emergency use of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID‑19 Vaccine for the prevention of COVID-19,” Denise Hinton, the agency’s chief scientist wrote in a letter.

US President Donald Trump said that the first Pfizer coronavirus vaccine will be administered in the United States within the next 24 hours.

“Today, our nation has achieved a medical miracle. We have delivered a safe and effective vaccine in just 9 months. This is one of the greatest scientific accomplishments in history. It will save millions of lives and end the pandemic once and for all. The Pfizer vaccine is over 95% effective, far exceeding expectations. This vaccine will be free for all Americans. We have already begun shipping the vaccine to every state and zip code in the country. The first vaccine will be administered in less than 24 hours,” Trump said.
