Umar Khalid launched from jail on interim bail for week

NEW DE;HI:  Former Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) pupil Umar Khalid was launched from the Tihar jail right here on Friday after he was granted interim bail for per week to attend his sister’s wedding ceremony, officers mentioned.

According to jail officers, Khalid was launched on Friday morning.

Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat granted the aid to Khalid, who was arrested in a case associated to the February 2020 northeast Delhi riots.

Khalid has been granted bail until December 30. The former pupil chief had moved an utility searching for interim bail for 2 weeks to attend his sister’s wedding ceremony.

Khalid was booked underneath the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and provisions of the Indian Penal Code for allegedly being a mastermind of the February 2020 riots, which had left 53 folks useless and greater than 700 injured.

The violence had erupted through the protests in opposition to the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC). Khalid was arrested by the Delhi Police in September 2020.
