South Asian University college students go on starvation strike, demand scholarship hike

NEW DELHI: A bunch of scholars of South Asian University are sitting on an indefinite starvation strike to press for a hike of their scholarships, a college students’ physique mentioned.

The starvation strike commenced on November 7 after the administration didn’t reply to their calls for, the varsity’s General Body of Students mentioned.

Despite college students falling sick and collapsing, the administration has refused to provoke dialogue, it alleged.

The college students have been demanding a rise in MA college students’ stipend to Rs 7,000, paid extension to the Covid-affected PhD batch, guaranteeing parity of stipend paid to PhD students with that beneath the Junior Research Fellowship and pupil illustration within the University Complaints’ Committee.

“From November 1, the students have occupied the fourth floor — outside the Acting President’s Office — in an indefinite sit-in. The indefinite hunger strike commenced on November 7,” the coed physique mentioned in a press release.
