Sharjeel Imam granted bail in sedition case, however to stay in jail

NEW DELHI: A Delhi courtroom on Friday granted bail to former JNU pupil Sharjeel Imam in a sedition case through which he was accused of instigating the Jamia riots right here in 2019.

Additional Sessions Judge Anuj Agrawal granted him reduction within the matter.

An in depth order from the courtroom is awaited.

In the New Friends Colony case, Imam was arrested for instigating and abetting the Jamia riots, attributable to his seditious speech delivered on December 13, 2019.

During the investigation, police invoked sections 124 A (sedition) and 153 A IPC (selling enmity between courses) towards him.

However, Imam, who’s in judicial custody since January 2020, will proceed to stay in jail as he’s but to safe bail within the Delhi riots conspiracy case.
