SC, Punjab-Haryana notice to SC on removal of farmers from roads

Wednesday is the 21st day of the agitation of farmers on the Delhi border to press for the withdrawal of new agricultural laws of the Modi government. Demonstration of farmers will continue on the borders of Delhi or they will be sent elsewhere, a hearing was held in the Supreme Court. A bench of Chief Justice SA Bobde, Justice AS Bopanna and Justice V Ramasubramanian has issued notices to the Central Government, Punjab and Haryana Government on the matter. Also, the court said that a committee will be formed on this matter, which will resolve the issue. Now the matter will be heard on Thursday.

During the hearing, the Chief Justice asked that you want the borders to be opened. On which the lawyer said that the court had said during the Shaheen Bagh case that roads should not be jammed. On repeatedly citing Shaheen Bagh, the Chief Justice interrupted the lawyer. He said how many people had blocked the way there? Exemplification cannot be given in cases of law and order. The Chief Justice asked during the hearing whether the farmers’ organizations have been made party in the case.

The Chief Justice said in the court that the petitioners, they have no strong argument. Who has closed the roads in such a situation? On which the Solicitor General said that the farmers are protesting and the Delhi Police has closed the avenues.

On which CJI said that you are the main party on the ground. The court has said that they will listen to the farmers’ organizations, and also asked the government why the agreement has not been reached so far. The farmers organizations have now been given notice by the court. The court says that such issues should be settled at the earliest. The Supreme Court has asked to form a committee of representatives of the government and farmers, so that the two can discuss the issue among themselves.
