S Jaishankar, two different BJP candidates elected to Rajya Sabha ‘uncontested’ from Gujarat

AHMEDABAD: Three candidates of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), together with External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, have been on Monday declared elected “uncontested” to the Rajya Sabha from Gujarat, officers stated.

Apart from Jaishankar, the opposite two BJP candidates elected to the Upper House of Parliament for a 6-year time period are Kesridevsinh Jhala and Babubhai Desai.

For the profession diplomat-turned-politician, who was inducted into the Union Cabinet in 2019, this would be the second time period within the Rajya Sabha from the BJP-ruled state.

Returning Officer Reeta Mehta stated the three candidates have been declared as being elected “uncontested”.

Kesridevsinh Digvijaysinh Jhala, Desai Babubhai Jesangbhai, and Subrahmanyam Jaishankar Krishnaswami “have been declared elected uncontested on July 17,” the RO stated in a declaration on the National eVidhan Application web site.

Monday (July 17) was the final date to withdraw nomination kinds, and if required, polling was to happen on July 24.

Jaishankar had filed his nomination kind on July 10, whereas Jhala and Desai submitted their papers on July 12.
