Ready to debate Manipur on Aug 11, don’t have anything to cover; Amit Shah in RS

NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday mentioned the federal government is prepared for a dialogue on the Manipur situation on August 11 and claimed that it was the opposition that was working away from it.

The dialogue on the no-confidence movement will likely be taken up within the Lok Sabha from August 8 to 10.

The movement was moved by Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi to pressure Prime Minister Narendra Modi to talk on the contentious Manipur situation.

During a debate within the Rajya Sabha on the Delhi companies invoice, Shah mentioned that he has written to the House chairman that he’s able to debate on the Manipur situation.

“I am ready to discuss Manipur on August 11 and we have nothing to hide. You have many things to hide so you all do not want to talk,” he mentioned.

The residence minister mentioned that he’s able to reply all queries of the members as it’s his constitutional obligation.

Shah mentioned the opposition is in search of discussions below Rule 267, which has a voting provision and is for various functions.

When a member from the opposition requested him to carry a dialogue on Manipur instantly, the house minister mentioned it isn’t doable now and neither from August 8 to 10 because the Congress has introduced a no-confidence movement within the Lok Sabha which will likely be mentioned on these three days.

“I have already written to you before the start of the Monsoon session for holding a debate on the Manipur situation, but you have not agreed. They do not want a discussion on Manipur and are running away,” he charged.

“The question is Manipur situation and what steps the government is taking there, not a show of strength by voting. If you want to vote, I dare you to make this bill fall through voting,” Shah mentioned in the course of the debate on the Delhi companies invoice.

The opposition has been demanding a debate on Manipur in each homes of Parliament and an announcement from the prime minister.

“If Kharge Sahab (leader of the opposition) agrees to a discussion, I am ready for that,” Shah added.
