CHANDIGARH/HOSHIRAPUR: Rains lashed many elements of Punjab on Saturday, leaving farmers nervous as showers accompanied by high-velocity winds flattened the wheat crop at some locations within the state.
With rains lashing many locations in Punjab, wheat growers had been nervous about their standing crops as showers at this stage would hit the yield.
In Hoshiarpur, high-velocity winds and rain broken standing wheat crops in some elements of the district. Hoshiarpur Chief Agriculture Officer Gurdev Singh mentioned the rain and gusty winds had prompted much less injury to crops within the district as in comparison with different districts of the state.
Strong winds flattened standing wheat crops at about 150 hectares of land within the Mukerian, Tanda and Sham Chaurasi areas of this district.
The actual loss to the standing crop was being assessed, mentioned Gurdev Singh.
In Muktsar additionally, rains and high-velocity winds flattened the wheat crop in some locations.
The farm specialists had earlier suggested farmers to not irrigate wheat crops to keep away from losses attributable to lodging due to the rains and robust winds.
Punjab this season introduced 34.90 lakh hectares of space below wheat crop with a projected output of 170 lakh metric tonnes.
