NEW DELHI: Rains didn’t dampen the spirit of the Beating Retreat ceremony held on the historic Vijay Chowk right here on Sunday as Indian classical tunes performed by bands of the armed forces crammed the air, marking the top of Republic Day celebrations.

Foot-tapping music marked the start of the ceremony with the arrival of President Droupadi Murmu. She was welcomed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
