The Ministry of Railways has prolonged the time restrict for cancellation of counter tickets for prepare journeys between March 21 and June 31, 2020 from the current six months to 9 months in view of the coronavirus disaster.
The ministry had earlier prolonged the power from three days to 6 months when the coronavirus pandemic had led to the cancellation of all common trains.
“Ministry of Railways has decided to extend the time limit beyond six months and up to nine months from the date of journey for cancellation of PRS counter tickets and refund of fare across reservation counters for the journey period March 21, 2020 to June 7, 2020. It is applicable only for regular time tabled trains cancelled by Railways,” the ministry mentioned in a press release.
“After lapse of six months from the date of journey, many passengers may have deposited the tickets to Claims Office of Zonal Railways through TDR or through general application along with original tickets. Full refund of fare on such PRS counter tickets shall also be allowed for such passengers,” it mentioned.

Soon after the lockdown was introduced in March and common prepare providers have been suspended as a result of pandemic, the time restrict for ticket cancellation was prolonged from three days to 3 months and in May it was prolonged to 6 months.
This was finished to limit the variety of passengers at counters and forestall transmission of the coronavirus.
