Presidential election: NDA’s candidate Droupadi Murmu leads after first spherical of counting

NEW DELHI: The NDA’s presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu is main with 540 of the 748 votes of the MPs, whereas Opposition nominee Yashwant Sinha has obtained 208 votes after the primary spherical of counting, Returning Officer P C Mody stated on Thursday.

Votes of 15 MPs have been declared invalid, he stated. With every MP having a vote worth of 700 on this presidential election, Murmu obtained a complete of 5,23,600 votes which is 72.19 per cent of the overall legitimate MP votes, indicating some cross-voting in her favour, officers stated.

On the opposite hand, Sinha’s whole vote worth stood at 1,45,600, which is 27.81 per cent of the overall legitimate votes. The counting for the second spherical of votes of the MLAs has begun, officers stated.
