PM Modi to join Durga Puja celebrations in Bengal virtually

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will join the Durga Puja celebrations in Bengal this year, virtually. He will hold a mega virtual address on Sashti, which is on October 22.

Durga Puja will begin on October 21 with Akal Bodhan and then will continue till October 25 or Vijaya Dashmi.

Sashti is an important day as the celebration is in full swing, so is the mood of the people.

Bengal Incharge of BJP, Kailash Vijayvargiya said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a virtual rally in the afternoon considering that several rules of social distancing and even Covid-19 will have to be maintained as the celebration and virtual address go hand in hand.”

“We are trying to identify pandals where we can showcase the culture and ethnicity of the state too. There will be cultural programmes from the morning before Prime Minister joins the celebrations for more than an hour on Shashti afternoon,” he said.

Last year, Home Minister Amit Shah had flown to Kolkata to attend Durga Puja and also inaugurated pandals but this year he will travel to North Bengal on October 17, the day Durga Puja begins.

The day-long programme will consist of meeting party workers, meeting party leaders and even addressing a press conference in Bengal.

This is one of the first political engagements post-Covid where he will spend the entire day in a state and the focus is clearly on the 2021 Bengal elections.

Senior party leaders like Arvind Menon are already camping in north Bengal for preparations of this day-long interaction.
