NEW DELHI: Enforcement Directorate (ED) sleuths on Saturday visited a number of areas, together with the premises of Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia’s private assistant Devendra Sharma, in reference to the cash laundering angle within the Delhi excise coverage case. ED officers visited not less than 5 areas within the Delhi NCR as a part of the continued investigation, sources added.

Sisodia took to twitter to assert: “They registered a false FIR, got my house raided, searched bank lockers, checked in my village but found nothing against me. Today, they did not find anything at my PA’s house, so now they have arrested him and taken him away.” In one other tweet, he alleged the ED motion is due to the upcoming state elections.

However, ED sources instructed this paper that no arrests had been made although occupants of the premises searched had been questioned. The ED has to date carried out greater than 130 raids in throughout India together with Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. It arrested Sameer Mahandru, managing director of liquor manufacturing firm Indospirit, in September.

The cash laundering case being investigated by ED is the fallout of a CBI FIR on the Delhi excise coverage case through which Sisodia has been named as accused primary. The CBI is probing the irregularities within the Delhi excise coverage, which Sisodia had accredited. The irregularities allegedly precipitated large losses to the state exchequer whereas benefiting non-public events together with liquor merchants and middlemen. The CBI can also be conducting a parallel investigation into the matter below Prevention of Corruption Act. In the latter case, Sisodia was questioned final month for over 9 hours.
