Not deliberate, says household of man who hoisted Nishan Sahib

The household of a 23-year-old man from Punjab’s Tarn Taran, accused of hoisting the Nishan Sahib, a flag sacred to Sikhs, on the Red Fort through the farmers’ protest on Republic Day, Wednesday claimed that he was harmless and had climbed up the flagpole solely after being instigated by a fellow protester.
Jugraj Singh’s grandfather Mehal Singh claimed that his grandson went to the Delhi border with a bunch of farmers for taking part within the agitation and the tractor parade. He mentioned ever for the reason that visuals of Jugraj hoisting the Nishan Singh have been shared, media individuals, police groups, and intelligence officers have been visiting their dwelling at village Vaan Tara Singh.
“Jugraj had no such plans. A fellow protester asked him (Jugraj) to climb the flagpole after others could not do so. Jugraj then agreed to climb up the flagpole to hoist the flag. He is innocent,” Mehal Singh mentioned about his grandson.
The villagers mentioned that Jugraj was a superb man and sometimes helped hoist the Nishan Sahib at native gurdwaras, and that would have been the explanation the guy protesters requested him to do the identical on the Red Fort.
Fellow villager and ex-serviceman Prem Singh mentioned, “There was no planning behind it. He had not gone to Delhi to hoist the Nishan Sahib. He didn’t carry any flag with him. He was quick at climbing poles and hoisted the flag handed over by someone else. He is a good man.”
There has been an enormous outrage over the non secular flag being hoisted on the Red Fort. Mehal Singh mentioned he now fears that police would conduct raids at his home to arrest Jugraj, one of many three youngsters of Baldev Singh. The household owns three acres of farmland within the village.
Tarn Taran police officers have been tight lipped over the event. However, a supply mentioned that police was investigating if Jugraj had any relation with any banned outfit.
